Patient assistance programmes (PAP): how company support schemes work
General guidance, checked by our pharmacist. Your medicine's own leaflet and your doctor's advice always come first.
Several manufacturers of specialty medicines run patient assistance programmes. These are run by the company, not by the pharmacy, and each has its own rules.
What they can offer
- Support for patients who need a medicine for a long time — the details differ from company to company.
- Some programmes have income or paperwork requirements; others are open to anyone on the medicine.
- Programmes change, start and stop. Only the company can confirm what applies to you.
How to apply
- Ask your doctor whether your medicine has a programme — many doctors' clinics have the forms.
- The company usually needs your prescription, ID proof and bills of your purchases.
- Keep every GST bill. They are often needed as proof of purchase.
How we can help
Our team can tell you whether a company runs a programme for your medicine, help you gather the bills and papers, and keep your purchase record ready.
